Two enterprising East Bay chefs felt compelled to address local rising food insecurity exacerbated by COVID. They created the project Chefs for the People and got cooking. It was a pleasure to help them create a website that could allow them to raise funds and document their impact.
The Chefs for the People Mission:
“FEED. EMPLOY. INVEST. We feed nutritious meals to people most in need in our community, employ a kitchen staff who have diverse lived experiences, and invest in the local community, purchasing our meat, produce and desserts from BIPOC food businesses, as well as building relationships with local food justice organizations.”
2021 Update on the Chefs for the People Accomplishments:
“As of April 1, 2021: 12,000+ meals cooked. We’re cooking our meals at Dig Deep Farm Food Hub, a non-profit commercial kitchen in San Leandro. $11,000+ of meat and produce purchased from BIPOC Purveyors and Growers. We source produce from Mandela Partners, Three Sisters Farm Project and Dig Deep Farm, and meats from Preferred Meats. $7,000 of desserts purchased from local bakeries. We purchase a variety of desserts from talented local bakers for our family meals.”
